Living the dream, that’s how Joe Sales would have described his life had he not failed to make the grade at the Canuck’s rookie camp year after year. Although truth be told Joe bombed the tryouts to avoid wearing the early 80's Canuck’s uniform. Instead he settled for the next best thing travelling the world taking photos of cyclocross riders.
Joe began life as a racer in the sport of cyclocross in the 80's. It took him the next twenty years to work out he just wasn’t that good, besides he really didn’t enjoy all the hard work involved in the racing, he was more in it for the beer afterwards. During this time Joe also raised 3 young men, and discovered his true talent was changing diapers. Unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be, Joe managed to toilet train the boys and needed to find something else to do.
Turns out he is pretty handy with a camera, and so he started taking photos of everything he loved, bikes, hockey, mud, beer, babies, trees and odd (but not old) buildings.
So in 2005 Joe realized by using his well-honed photography skills, he could attend all the cyclocross races he wanted, not have to race and still get muddy and destroy perfectly good camera gear (vs perfectly good bikes). Oh and of course enjoy the post-race beers.
